Her story

From the emergency room to Medicus.

“My goal at every consultation is simple: to make sure you feel seen and heard.”
Dr Eltanin James

Dr James qualified as a medical doctor at Stellenbosch University in 2022. After two years of internship in Cape Town, she spent her community service year in emergency medicine. Here she saw first-hand what poor access to primary healthcare does: patients arriving gravely ill with conditions that could have been treated simply, and much earlier, if seeing a doctor had been easier.

Medicus is her answer to that. A practice built around one idea: a thorough, unhurried consultation with a doctor should be within reach of anyone in South Africa, from home, at a time they choose. That same experience shifted her focus from emergency medicine to primary care, with an emphasis on preventative medicine.

She is an HPCSA-registered doctor and practises in accordance with South African telemedicine guidelines.

How she practises

Care that treats you as a person, not a number.

Time

Twenty unhurried minutes.

Every consultation is booked for a full 20 minutes, and can extend to 30 minutes where clinically necessary. You will not be rushed out of the room.

Education

You leave understanding.

Dr James believes in educating her patients. She explains what she finds, what it means, and what your options are, so every decision about your health is an informed one.

Manner

Kind, understanding, attentive.

Her consulting style is warm and patient. Whatever brings you to the appointment, her goal is that you feel seen and heard.

Limits

Honest about telemedicine.

Some things need hands-on care. Where an in-person examination or emergency care is clinically indicated, Dr James says so and refers you to the right place.
